Rubber vs. Glue: What Kind of Thoughts Rule You?

I don’t know about your experiences with negative thoughts, but for me, once I have them, bad luck immediately follows. I’ll be driving down the street, reviewing my irritations, and a rock will hit crack my windshield as a reminder for me to stop. Whenever I’m in a bad mood, I stump my toe. It never fails.

I aspired to not think negative thoughts. I even asked the Heavens for assistance. With all the obstacles and distractions in life, I would rather avoid facing karma.

But how does this karma concept work? The Buddhist principles provide that bad thoughts grow into worse thoughts. According to The Dhammapada verse 349, a person is tormented by evil thoughts and his becomes passion-dominant where his cravings steadily increase.

But how are thoughts so powerful? What causes a thought to bring about havoc?

The physical world began with a word. To have a word, one must first have a thought leading up to expressing the word. The childhood rhyme for sticking up to someone who makes fun of you or sends a hateful thought your way is — I’m rubber. You’re glue. What you say to me, bounces off me, and sticks to you.

This defense mechanism has truth behind the imagery. Feeling an emotion with the thoughts makes them powerful. And, like a deer retracing his path through the woods each morning to reach a berry bush, the more you repeat the thought, the deeper a groove is created, which embeds the thoughts. Both cause them to manifest into material form quickly. Otherwise, you have time to repeal the images and replace them with positivity before they essentially form cubic memories and take shape into what we consider to be reality.

You don’t have to fear thoughts. At times, I felt if I lived out negative scenarios in my mind, I could plan how to cope with them. Then, I could divert them from coming into my life and I wouldn’t have to live them out in the physical world.

Think of it as if you are the Architect in the Matrix movies. You are in control of what comes of your thoughts, the key is to be the one who plans the outcome. Ideally, we will reach a point where we no longer practice the art of negative thoughts as a means for processing experiences and learning how to cope with obstacles.

I have found where I live in a bubble and focus on positive thoughts, I act as a sponge for people who want to inflict others with their negative scenarios. Being aimless isn’t the answer, either. If you’re living blissfully in a daisy field, the world takes charge in ensuring you learn whatever you need as a lesson. You might as well take charge and decide for yourself, the when, and how, and where, just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

For those times you can’t resist thinking negatively, establish a safe-keeping mechanism by planning beforehand a benefit you will receive in exploring how a negative situation could play out. Give an intention at the beginning as an opening for how the negative theme will conclude on a happy note.

I suggest creating a thought space in your mind. Introduce the theme to the Loving Source and all creations that you are exploring and then state that the thoughts are not to manifest. Be clear and firm with your intention for the thoughts to dissolve into nothingness once you finish. Better yet, state and have the intention, that no matter what you explore, the outcome will be positive and in the best interest for all.

For instance, a fire can seem devastating to a person of modest means who has an invalid daughter. Yet, it could result in the insurance adjustor constructing a replacement house according to handicap needs.

We are given the responsibility to check ourselves and curb our thoughts. Proverbs 15:26 describes wicked thoughts to be an abomination. At the end of exploring, you can put a cap on the thoughts and order them to dissipate. Another idea is for them to never attach to any living thing. You are the master of your thoughts and remain in control, every time.

It is even better for you to focus on having positive thoughts. You can ask for assistance to not have a curiosity to explore negative thoughts.

We can subdue our evil thoughts through meditation. Over time, you clear away any bad karma. The effects are stronger where you also live a lifestyle intended to avoid attracting new negativity into your experiences. When you fall into negative patterns, you can concentrate an additional amount and with additional impact to clear yourself before any manifest.

Yet still, if you are the rubber, someone else becomes the glue. What doesn’t appear in your life will most likely pass along until it finds a recipient. This holds true with positive thoughts, as well. Each of us has a responsibility not to accumulate negative thoughts so that others won’t be stepping on our landmines.

You have the ability to cause negative thoughts to convert into higher-minded ideals. Like energy, they never die, but change form. Thoughts are energy shifting between slower and rapid vibrations.

Without realizing it, you can have moments of being the glue where you pick up on others’ negativity, and mistake it as belonging to you. You need to discern which aren’t originating from your heart. The Qu’ran 114: 4-6 provides that evil thoughts do not originate in man, but come from the unseen mischief or spirits who whisperer into the hearts of man.

Don’t forget that you are Love. Those thoughts you don’t want to feel are coming from an outside source. Any expression other than love is a modification to your true Self. You can be the rubber for a lifetime.
